Special exhibition
Special exhibition for 2026 all about chickens and eggs, with egg cups and kitchen utensils; can also be booked as a separate special tour.
The idea for the kitchen museum came from Hannover restaurateur and caterer Carl-Werner Möller-Hof zum Berge. Over three decades of running restaurants and delicatessens and handling thousands of catering events, he had built up a large collection of kitchen utensils, tableware and decorations. After visiting the Chocolate Museum in Cologne, he decided in 2007 to turn it into a museum with an attached teaching kitchen.
In December 2009 a nonprofit association was founded to run it, with the aim of teaching children and young people about food culture and nutrition. On April 15, 2010 the museum opened in a former operations building of the large-scale Fehling printing works in the List district. Since then, themed kitchen rooms have been set up step by step across around 1,400 square meters, from a medieval kitchen to the Frankfurt Kitchen and postwar fitted kitchens, along with kitchens from many countries and fairy-tale worlds.
Alongside the permanent exhibition there are changing special exhibitions, a cookbook library and a teaching kitchen, where well over a thousand school cooking classes have been held since the opening. In 2013 the association received a Lower Saxony award for this work. Income from guided tours, cooking classes and the museum café helps fund the educational program.
