About the museum
The museum building is one of the oldest houses in Schöneck and dates from around 1834. Over time it served, among other things, as a hospital, a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, a youth hostel and a kindergarten.
After extensive restoration it reopened in July 2005 and has since housed the local history museum and a museum café. The exhibition covers the town's history as well as the working and living conditions of its people. Particular emphasis is placed on the more than century-long history of the cigar industry in the town: the binder and wrapper leaves and the handcraft steps of cigar making are explained, in part also in demonstrations.
