About the museum
The private two-wheeler museum in Berlin-Kreuzberg has existed since 1987 and belongs to the company ideal – Motorräder & Seitenwagen GmbH. The exhibition space is a former horse stable on the grounds of the Berliner Dampfschifffahrtsgesellschaft on the Spree, where the border once ran. For decades, the inventor and tinkerer Wofner worked at the site; already in the 1950s he built a bicycle with all-wheel suspension.
About 30 old motorcycles from the 1920s to the 1950s are on display, along with some bicycles, mopeds, engines, sidecars and accessories. Some pieces are restored, others are shown in as-found condition; the museum deliberately has a workshop character and shows a cross-section of technology and design. The focus is on the brands NSU, BMW and Horex, and a collection of Berlin motorcycles is being built up. An archive of old brochures, operating manuals and spare parts catalogs is accessible on request.
