About the museum
Pálshús at Strandgata 4 in Ólafsfjörður is one of the oldest houses in town, and its oldest part was built in 1892. The house is named after Páll Bergsson, a leading figure in the fishing business in Ólafsfjörður, and his wife Svanhildur Jörundsdóttir, who gave the house its present form. The residents of the town rebuilt the house together, and today it is a museum and cultural centre.
Pálshús houses the Náttúrugripasafn Ólafsfjarðar (Ólafsfjörður Natural History Museum) and the exhibition “Þráin að fljúga” (The Urge to Fly), which deals with Icelandic birdlife and the human longing to fly. The exhibition is considered suitable for children and has great educational value. The building also contains private collections and various music or art exhibitions.
