About the museum
The Þjóðlagasetur séra Bjarna Þorsteinssonar (Folk Music Centre of Reverend Bjarni Þorsteinsson) in Siglufjörður presents Icelandic folk music. It is in the house where Reverend Bjarni Þorsteinsson lived from 1888 to 1898. In the late 19th century he collected Icelandic folk songs, and his collection was published in 1906.
At the centre, Icelandic folk music is brought to life through video recordings. Visitors can try replicas of instruments, and an exhibition covers the life and work of Reverend Bjarni and his collecting. Visitors from all over the country have sung folk songs, played old instruments and danced folk dances in the house.
