About the museum
Cashel Heritage Centre stands on Main Street in Cashel and serves both as a small exhibition and as the town’s tourist information office. Its main display is a large-scale model of Cashel as it looked in the 1640s, which picks out the town’s less obvious historical treasures. An audio commentary accompanies the model and is offered in English, Irish, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
The Royal Charters of Cashel, granted by King Charles II in 1663 and King James II in 1687, are on permanent display. Staff can help with information about the town and the wider county, accommodation bookings and free maps of Cashel. The building also houses a craft shop with local pottery and ceramics, Irish clothing, books and souvenirs.
The centre is a useful first stop before visiting the Rock of Cashel and the other sights of the town. Admission is free, and visitors are advised that a visit takes about half an hour.
