About the museum
Fenagh Visitor Centre opened in 2006 on the site of the former Fenagh Temperance Hall in the village of Fenagh in south County Leitrim. It is run by the Fenagh Development Company, a registered charity that also manages the village community centre. The village has a long history from Neolithic times to the present and is known for its two abbey ruins, standing stones and other archaeological sites.
The centre combines three uses under one roof: a soft play centre, the Dolmen Café and the Fenagh Heritage Centre. The heritage exhibition shows photographs of the local sites of interest, books and articles about the area, and a replica of the Book of Fenagh. The centre also holds documents, pictures and videos on the history of Fenagh and has compiled information on the graveyards of the parish.
In summer a volunteer guide leads a historical walking tour of about one and a half hours from the visitor centre. The tour takes in standing stones, the abbeys and St Catherine's Church, and booking is essential.
