About the museum
The GAA Museum is part of the Croke Park stadium complex in north Dublin, the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association, Ireland’s largest sporting organisation. It follows the story of the Gaelic games of hurling and Gaelic football from ancient times to the present day across two floors of galleries, with permanent displays and a temporary annual exhibition on a single theme, such as the sporting links between the GAA and the Americas.
The ground-floor gallery is built around the Treasury of Trophies. Here the original Sam Maguire Cup and Liam MacCarthy Cup, awarded to the All-Ireland football and hurling champions, are displayed together with historic cups such as the Sigerson, Fitzgibbon, Croke and Bob O’Keeffe cups. The official GAA Hall of Fame, opened in 2013 with the players of the teams of the millennium, is on the same floor. Upstairs, the galleries deal with the games as they are played today, and the Interactive Games Zone lets visitors test their own hurling and football skills.
The museum also looks after the GAA Library and Archive, the national repository for the association’s records, publications and papers from the 1880s onwards, which researchers can consult by appointment in a supervised reading room. Museum entry is combined with the Croke Park Stadium Tour and the Skyline Tour, and a special tour marks the history of Bloody Sunday at Croke Park.
