About the museum
Patrick Pearse, a leader of the 1916 Rising, built a summer cottage at Ros Muc in the Connemara Gaeltacht, where he came to learn from the landscape and the Irish language and culture of the area.
The visitor centre, run by the Office of Public Works, is built close to the cottage. Its exhibition presents the landscape of Connemara and the Gaelic culture and language that attracted Pearse to the place. A short walk across the bog leads from the centre to the cottage, which is preserved as Pearse left it in 1915.
Visitors can take guided tours led by local guides, see the art displayed in the centre and stop at the café.
