About the museum
Kinsale Museum is in the centre of the town, in a market house about four hundred years old, and is owned by Cork County Council. the inquest into the sinking of the Lusitania was held in the building, which is one reason the ship features in the museum.
The museum is dedicated to the history of Kinsale and its surroundings. Its displays cover major national and international events, notably the 1601 Battle of Kinsale and the Lusitania, as well as the town’s maritime history and the curious story of the Kinsale Giant. An eclectic collection of artefacts and oddities is shown alongside audio-visual displays and interpretive panels.
A team of knowledgeable volunteers is on hand to answer questions, and the museum is promoted as suitable for the whole family.
