About the museum
The Museum of Style Icons is part of the visitor centre of Newbridge Silverware, a firm in Newbridge, County Kildare, that began as a cutlery maker in 1934. The collection started with a short black Givenchy dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in the 1963 film Charade.
The museum has since grown into a large collection of couture and costume. It shows clothes worn by figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Princess Grace, Princess Diana, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Elvis Presley and the Beatles, together with photographs, pop culture objects and private letters. Curators control light, temperature and humidity to protect the garments.
Permanent displays are combined with changing exhibitions. The visitor centre also has a showroom for Newbridge cutlery and jewellery, a restaurant and a heritage tour that shows how the cutlery and jewellery are made. Entry to the museum is free.
