About the museum
The museum was inaugurated on 5 June 2004 and occupies the frescoed rooms of the 14th-century Palazzo dei Castiglioni di Monteruzzo in the centre of Castiglione Olona. It is a civic museum run by the municipality.
The collection grew out of Polimero Arte, a research centre and workshop founded between 1969 and 1973 by Count Lodovico Castiglioni and his cousin Franco Mazzucchelli. The initiative was supported by Mazzucchelli Celluloide, an important Italian plastics company, and many artists of the time took part. Their works were presented in exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
The route displays more than fifty works from the 1970s made from plastic materials, including works by Enrico Baj, Gianni Colombo, Giacomo Balla and Man Ray. The ticket also allows a visit to the nearby Palazzo Branda Castiglioni.
