About the museum
The anatomy collection of the University of Pavia was established at the end of the 18th century by the university's anatomists and is linked to the work of scientists such as Giacomo Rezia, Antonio Scarpa, Bartolomeo Panizza and Giovanni Zoja. It is a rare example of a 19th-century scientific museum that has remained almost intact in its original layout.
It mainly preserves natural preparations, arranged in sections: osteology, angiology, embryology, splanchnology, aesthesiology, neurology and topographical anatomy. There are more than two thousand items, including preparations, models and wax figures dating from the late 18th to the late 19th century, kept at the seat of the Institute of Anatomy in Via Forlanini.
The common origins of these collections link them to the medical section of the Museo per la Storia dell'Università. According to the University Museum System, the collection is currently closed to the public. In the past, only special evening openings by reservation have been organised, for example with FAI Giovani Pavia.
