About the museum

The museum documents the life of the farmers and craftspeople of the Savena, Idice and Setta valleys. It is housed in the former Gualando stable and hayloft, a late 19th-century rural building that the municipality of Pianoro restored to house the collection. It was opened on 17 March 2007 and since 2009 has borne the name of Pietro Lazzarini, whose bequest forms the core of the collection.

The collection numbers over 1,800 pieces, to which objects from other donations are added. The display recreates historic interiors and is divided into three thematic sections: farm work, the rural house and craft activities. One route is also devoted to the chestnut. The objects are accompanied by testimonies on local traditions, daily life and the dialect of Pianoro.

The museum is conceived as an educational workshop and offers a conference hall, a library and a multimedia station. Some objects were lent for the film “L'uomo che verrà”, which is about the Marzabotto massacre.
