About the museum
The museum tells the story of the orsanti, men from the Parma Apennines, often musicians and animal trainers, who travelled from village to village with street performances, probably since the 18th century.
The institution was founded in Compiano, in the deconsecrated church of San Rocco, and is now based in Vigoleno, a hamlet of Vernasca, in Casa (Palazzo) Tanzi, in the medieval village.
The collections include large papier-mâché bears, unusual musical instruments, costumes, prints and documents relating to the life and work of the travelling performers. The same building houses the Welcome Room, the village’s tourist information point.
