About the museum
The museum is housed in the Palazzina delle arti “Lucio Roberto Rosaia”, a neo-medieval building of 1924 designed by the architect Franco Oliva and originally built for the Ufficio d’igiene (public health office). The building is named after the mayor Lucio Roberto Rosaia. Since 2000 it has housed the museum and the library, and temporary art exhibitions are also held there.
The collection is the result of thirty years of research and was donated to the Comune by the couple Lilian and Euro Capellini, who set it up in 2000. It includes over 1,500 original seals, from the 4th millennium BC to the contemporary era: finds from the Fertile Crescent, Egyptian amulet matrices, Roman rings, and medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical and Liberty (Art Nouveau) examples, as well as objects from pre-Columbian America, China, Japan and the Islamic world. One section is devoted to works by Lalique and Fabergé.
The building also houses the Biblioteca di Storia dell’Arte e Archeologia, named since 2024 after the critic Giancarlo Marmori, which supports the study and teaching activities of the Musei civici.
