About the museum

Villa La Quiete was the summer residence of Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici (1667–1743), Electress Palatine and last member of the Medici family. From 1650 and for over three centuries it also housed the women's college of the Montalve, one of the most modern and long-lived institutions for the education of women, which has left a significant historical and artistic heritage in the complex.

Today the villa belongs to the Regione Toscana and is granted in concession to the Sistema Museale dell'Università di Firenze, owner of the historic assets that remain, which has created a museum route as part of a wider enhancement project. The guided tour includes the frescoed apartment of the Electress Palatine, the church of the Santissima Trinità with the lower choir, the 17th-century pharmacy and a collection of works by Renaissance artists, among them Sandro Botticelli and Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio.

After restoration funded by PNRR funds, in 2025 the historic Italian-style garden was opened to the public for the first time, in the 18th-century form desired by the Electress, described as the last garden of the Medici.
