About the museum
The Užvenčio kraštotyros muziejus was founded in 1965 and, since 1973, has been housed in the restored granary of Užvenčis manor. The manor is famous because from 1887 to 1898 the writer Marija Pečkauskaitė-Šatrijos Ragana lived here – these were the best years of her life, when her most valuable works “Sename dvare” (In an Old Manor) and “Viktutė” were created. Later the manor belonged to Jonas Smilgevičius (1870–1942), signatory of the Act of Independence of Lithuania. The museum's exhibitions tell of these famous people. The museum is a branch of the Kelmė Region Museum.
