About the museum
Konschthal Esch is a space for contemporary art that opened in 2021 as the prelude to Esch2022, the European Capital of Culture. It occupies a former furniture store on Boulevard Prince Henri, which the city bought in 2020 and had converted by 2022. Across almost 2,400 square metres on four levels, raw concrete ceilings and steel beams shape the rooms, which deliberately do not resemble a classic “white cube”.
The programme alternates between solo and thematic exhibitions. Alongside internationally known artists, young artists also get a platform; the Konschthal focuses on new productions and documents its exhibitions in catalogues. A “Project Room” offers additional space for smaller projects, there is an open call for applications, and an education programme offers free activities for school classes. The artistic director is Christian Mosar.
The venue has no permanent exhibition; the current temporary exhibitions are shown in each case. Admission is free, and a free guided tour takes place every Sunday at 15:00.
