About the museum

The Muerbelsmillen in the Luxembourg City district of Pfaffenthal is a mill on the Alzette canal. It operated as a mustard mill until 1985, producing mustard using traditional methods. Today it is one of the museums of the City of Luxembourg and is run by the Lëtzebuerg City Museum.

Visitors are greeted by a large water wheel driven by the canal. On the upper floor is the grinding room with its restored millstones and gears; excerpts from archive films show the mill in operation. Graphic panels and models explain its history. In the former mustard packing room, original items related to mustard production are on display, including advertisements, packaging and invoices.

The exhibition is aimed at a wide audience, especially young visitors. It can be visited independently or with a guide; a film or an educational workshop in the education room can complement the visit.
