About the museum
The Nabershof is a Saxon hall house from 1681 and is regarded as the oldest farm in Emmen; it is protected as a Rijksmonument. It takes its name from its last resident, Koos Naber, who had furnished the farm as a kind of museum and entertained visitors with figures made from gnarled root wood and a singing saw.
The Drentse Vereniging ’t Volk van Grada bought the farm from the municipality of Emmen in June 1990 and took over the name. From 1992 the almost completely dismantled complex was restored under the supervision of the heritage authorities with great involvement of volunteers; it was officially opened on 15 May 1995. Later, a theatre barn, a room for the costume collection and an open wagon shed were added to the grounds. In the house, old farm life can be seen with a living kitchen, a best parlour, stables and sleeping places for the farmhand and maid.
In 2020 an extension was added in which the interactive permanent exhibition "Boeren op de Hondsrug" tells the history of farming in the UNESCO Global Geopark De Hondsrug from prehistory to today. Behind the farm, in a small wood, lies the Langgraf, a unique megalithic tomb in the Netherlands. The association also maintains Drents Theater, costume shows and folk dance.
