About the museum
The Boerderijmuseum De Neeth near Aalten shows how people in the Achterhoek once lived and worked. It is housed in a barn (“Schoppe”) from 1910 that has been preserved largely in its original state and belongs to the neighbouring De Neeth farm. Th.G.J. Lammers from IJzerlo bought the farm in 1899, had the old house demolished and built the present farmhouse of 1914 a little higher up, reusing the old timber framework. In the meantime the family lived in the Schoppe, which afterwards served for a long time as a cattle shed and grain store.
Since 2000 the Schoppe has officially been used as a museum. The collection brings together household and farming objects: a cosy farmhouse kitchen with a cloverleaf wood-burning stove, enamel crockery, clothing and linen from 1850 to 1950, tools such as flails, wooden drills and the Staartploeg, washing and ironing equipment, a bedroom from the 1930s and 1940s and a large collection of lace caps (Knipmutsen).
Today the farm is an active dairy farm, and also a play farm with a pancake restaurant, playground and campsite. On the grounds there is also ’t Hoekendaalshuusken, with a private collection of over 600 kinds of toilet paper, begun in 1988.
