Internationaal Theepottenmuseum

Museum with thousands of quirky novelty teapots, mostly from England, at the Het Westendorp farm near Aalten – moved from Swartbroek in 2023.

Opening hoursAdmission €7.50 Café

About the museum

The Theepottenmuseum opened as a private museum in April 2011 in the Limburg village of Swartbroek and then showed more than 2,000 teapots arranged by theme, such as cars, animals, fruit and vegetables, but also space travel, sport, holidays and music. In 2013 it was voted “leukste uitje van Limburg” and in 2014 “leukste dagje uit van Nederland”.

In February 2023, the entire collection moved to the Achterhoek. At the Het Westendorp farm in the hamlet of IJzerlo (municipality of Aalten), two museums were merged into the Internationaal Theepottenmuseum and supplemented by a collection of coffee and teapots from Zuidland near Rotterdam. After the closure of the famous Teapot Island in Kent, it is, according to the museum, the only museum in Europe devoted entirely to unusual novelty teapots.

The collection comprises thousands of pieces, mostly from England, including well-known designers such as Paul Cardew, Annie Rowe, Gary Seymour, Tony Carter and Fitz & Floyd, but also Dutch curiosities such as the DAF bus, Holle Bolle Gijs or antique monkeys by Mosa. There are teapots shaped like vehicles, entire bathrooms, a dollhouse, characters from fairy tales and English TV series, and a peep show accessible only to visitors aged 18 and over. The same farm also houses Suzie’s Verzamelmuseum, the Follybos and a dairy farm.
