Limited operations. The museum is run by volunteers; it is open on selected Sundays (and a few Wednesdays) from 12 to 4 p.m., until the end of October. After that, winter operation applies, with guided tours by arrangement only.

About the museum

The Bunkermuseum Zoutelande is housed in two bunkers of the former Atlantic Wall strongpoint Lohengrin on the coast of Walcheren. At the foot of the dunes stands a Type 502 personnel bunker; about 500 metres further on, along a tiled path through the dunes, a Type 143 observation bunker with an armoured cupola sits on top of one of the highest dunes in the Netherlands. The walk up is part of the visit and offers a wide view.

The Bunkerbehoud foundation, which looks after several museum bunkers in Zeeland, has restored both sites in part to their Second World War condition. A cupola floor was already installed in observation bunker 143 in 2001 when the museum was set up; since 2017 the cupola has been further equipped with a restored observation stand. Changing exhibitions on the Battle of the Scheldt and on military technology are also on show.

The museum is run entirely by volunteers. Because there are not always enough helpers, either one bunker or both are open depending on staffing; the facilities are deliberately kept simple and there is not even a toilet. Outside the season, guided tours are available by arrangement. The foundation also runs a bunker museum in Vlissingen and a communications bunker in Middelburg, and offers battlefield tours across Walcheren.
