About the museum

The private museum In den Halven Maen in Rockanje on Voorne-Putten shows what the village shop and household of earlier times looked like. It is housed in a garage, converted in 1991, next to the owners' home. The building was originally a farm from 1901; in 1903 an attached taproom was added, in 1952 a barn, which served as a haulage business until the 1970s.

The collection comprises colonial goods, tin cans and packaging, tobacco items, kitchen utensils, drugstore products and toys. It is housed in a village shop, a small café and a few display windows with changing items. In the café there is coffee with handmade butter cake, in the garden jokes and surprises await, and there is also a second-hand corner with many books. The museum is deliberately kept small and personal.

In 2026 the museum remains closed; only the second-hand corner is open. The owners hope for a fresh start in 2027.
