About the museum
The Kempenmuseum goes back to the Stichting Museum De Acht Zaligheden foundation, established on April 9, 1979 to house the collection of local historian Piet Kwinten. A year later the museum moved to Kapelweg in Eersel, where a farmstead from around 1890 stands that had been rebuilt after a lightning strike in 1910.
Over the decades the museum grew step by step: in 2005 the farmhouse was connected to the former pigsty, which has since served as an exhibition room; in 2010 a new building with a climate-controlled storage depot was added. The farmhouse was restored in 2013 and 2014; since then the upper floors have also been open, with period displays on the development of agriculture from 1900 to 1960.
The museum has been closed since February 1, 2026. It is being rebuilt as a new museum with a visitor center: planned are a new reception building, renovation of the historic farmstead, new storage areas and an interior design using reused materials, with volunteers also taking part. Reopening is planned for after the end of 2026; the museum garden remains freely accessible during construction.
