About the museum
The Limburgs Openluchtmuseum Eynderhoof was established in 1990 in Nederweert-Eind next to an existing heritage garden. Volunteers gradually relocated historic buildings from the Peel region and rebuilt them here in order to recreate a village from around 1900. The sawmill came first in 1990, followed by the museum barn in 1992, the smithy in 1994 and the bakehouse in 1995.
The largest building, a long farmhouse from Weert, was fitted out as an inn and exhibition space in 1998. Most recently, the Peel farm "Klusse Kerneel" was added in June 2025. The museum operates as a foundation with more than 375 volunteers, receives no ongoing government funding and is financed through admissions, catering, handmade products and donations.
Visitors can watch craftspeople at work, such as wood turners, coopers, clog makers and potters, as well as permanent exhibitions on archaeology, textile processing and laundry care. There is also a herb garden, native plants and period-style paths.
