About the museum
The Historiehuis Roermond came into being in 2011, when the Stedelijk Museum Roermond was split into two institutions: the Cuypershuis for Pierre Cuypers and the Historiehuis for the city's history. It moved into a striking listed building on Neerstraat, which previously housed the hotel "De Gouden Leeuw" and the LLTB association and which today also houses BiblioRura.
The museum's aim is to make the city's history accessible to a broad public through exhibitions, educational projects and events. Admission is free, and the house is open seven days a week. The holdings comprise around 5,500 objects.
On the ground floor, the permanent exhibition "Roermond: stad met een andere geschiedenis" shows the city's history from prehistory to the present and emphasises that for centuries Roermond belonged to the area that is now Belgium. In the basement, exhibitions on various themes alternate. In addition there are guided tours for schools and groups, a collection database and audio and video contributions.
