About the museum
Museumpark VONK opened in July 2026 and came about through the merger of two existing institutions: the preHistorisch Dorp, an open-air museum with reconstructed buildings from the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages, and the Eindhoven Museum with its cultural-history collection. The name alludes both to the spark of the first fire and to inventiveness and wonder.
The park comprises a new museum building on the Boutenslaan, the grounds with historic farmsteads and a medieval market square, and the "Tuin van Verwondering" with interactive installations, known as Vonken. Whereas the preHistorisch Dorp was open only from April to October, VONK is accessible all year round, both indoors and outdoors.
In the building, an intro show with light and sound leads through 10,000 years of regional history; the collection presentation "Kabinet van Verdieping" shows objects that were previously in storage, and in the workshop visitors build new installations together with vocational students and volunteers. In the park, guests experience historic inhabitants, old crafts, dugout canoe trips and spear throwing in the "Wereld van Beleving".
