Opening hoursAdmission €7

About the museum

Bureau Europa was founded in 2006 as NAi Maastricht, a branch of the Nederlands Architectuurinstituut in Rotterdam. It opened in the Wiebengahal in the Céramique district, next to the Bonnefanten Museum. In 2009 it became independent as NAiM / Bureau Europa, and since 2013 it has operated solely under the name Bureau Europa, working independently as a platform for architecture and design.

In the same year, it moved to the Timmerfabriek in the Sphinxkwartier. The building complex was built between 1905 and 1911 as part of the Sphinx crystal and earthenware factory of the Regout family; parts of it have been protected as a Rijksmonument since 1996. Today the Timmerfabriek is a cultural factory that, besides Bureau Europa, houses an arthouse cinema and a pop venue, among others. Bureau Europa uses the former management offices and the exhibition space of the factory; the entrance is on Boschstraat. In 2018, the venue was closed for several months for major building renovation.

The programme consists of rotating exhibitions, lectures, workshops and walks through the city. It focuses on the built environment and on questions arising in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. There is no permanent exhibition.
