About the museum

The TU Delft Science Centre traces its roots back to the 1970s: in 1976, a technical exhibition center at the university that produced traveling exhibitions gave rise to the Techniekmuseum Delft. It displayed historic machines and calculating devices from the university's collections in a former laboratory building on Ezelsveldlaan.

The Techniekmuseum closed in 2008; the university turned it into an interactive science center, which from 2010 was housed on the first floor of the old mining building on Mijnbouwstraat. Instead of historic objects, the focus was now on experiment stations where students and researchers presented their work.

After the building on Mijnbouwstraat was sold, the center moved around 2021/22 to the Bouwcampus on Van der Burghweg in the middle of the campus and has been called the TU Delft Science Centre ever since. Since 2025 it has housed the Techniekstudio, where children accompanied by an adult can code, build and recycle; the interactive installation ARIA by Philip Beesley hangs in the entrance area. Labs and a new permanent hands-on exhibition, in which visitors will step into the role of researchers themselves, are being created in the basement; it is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
