About the museum
The hamlet of Namdalen in Pasvik is named after Namdalen in Nord-Trøndelag, the home district of Jens Chr. Eggen, who was the first to settle here in 1854. Eggen was unmarried and after a few years employed Pernille Tollefsdatter as a maidservant. He nevertheless did not settle in, sold the farm to her and left for America. Pernille ran the farm alone, and in 1869 she sold it to Ingebrigt Bersvendsen from Tynset, who cleared new land for the children and the animals. After him his son Teodor took over, and another son, Berge, also built in Namdalen.
Namdalen escaped the war, but the place's fate was that a road never reached it. The hamlet fell behind in development, and the youngest moved to the towns.
Nordre Namdalen gård consists of a farmhouse (våningshus), a cowshed with barn (fjøs med låve), a combined smithy and sauna, two sjå (storage sheds) and an outhouse (utedo). Varanger Museum has restored the outbuildings and the farmhouse.
