Sporveismuseet i Trondheim

About the museum

Sporveishistorisk Forening (Tram History Association) was founded in 1979, first under the name Trondhjems Sporveishistoriske Forening. The occasion was that Lokaltrafikkhistorisk forening in Oslo had acquired three classic two-axle trams, and that Trondheim had scrapped old carriages in the 1970s. The three carriages were allowed to stay in Trondheim on condition that they were looked after. The association gradually took over several carriages from Trondheim Trafikkselskap and restored them; the first project was carriage no. 33 from 1922.

The collection moved to Munkvoll in 1988, after tram operations in the city had ceased. The museum is on the north side of the Gråkallbanen, in the Gammelhallen (Old Hall) from 1924 and in a storage building from 1984. It opened in 1994 and officially in 1995, and has been open in the summers since then. The fleet includes, among others, GB 3, GB 5, GB 7, several TS trams, TT 19 and TT 58, the Hitra trailer (Hitrahengeren) and a closed goods wagon.

The buildings are not heated and are about the same temperature as outdoors. The association also operates veteran trams on the Gråkallbanen through Turtrikken AS, which handles all commercial rental.
