About the museum
The museum is housed in a complex of mining buildings listed as historic monuments under the name “Szyb Teresa” (Teresa Shaft). Coal has been mined in the area of the shaft since the 16th century, and an underground mine was documented here in the 1740s. The museum was founded by Jerzy Mazur, a racing and rally driver from Wałbrzych, who runs it to this day.
The museum consists of two parts. In the brick winding tower from 1864, in which the “Teresa” shaft was installed in 1930, the history of mining is presented: a winding engine from 1920, mining equipment and tools, uniforms, literature, and an exhibition of porcelain from two Wałbrzych factories. The second part, near the shaft, is devoted to motorsport.
The motorsport collection includes rally and racing cars, motorcycles, overalls, trophies and memorabilia of Polish and foreign drivers, among them the burnt-out Toyota Celica of Krzysztof Hołowczyc and the gallery of Marian Bublewicz. In front of the museum stands a bronze monument to Ayrton Senna, and the street on which the museum stands bears his name. The site is part of the Dolnośląski Szlak Zabytków Techniki (Lower Silesian Trail of Technical Monuments).
