About the museum
MICET – the Interactive Museum and Centre of Theatre Education (Muzeum Interaktywne i Centrum Edukacji Teatralnej) – belongs to the National Old Theatre named after Helena Modrzejewska in Kraków. The hosts present it as the only museum of its kind in Europe, combining the history of theatre, contemporary art, craftsmanship and new technologies.
The museum has no conventional permanent exhibition. It consists of a network of small workshops with props, books, set fragments and furniture, arranged along five thematic paths: freedom, us/them, emotions, body and new. Each path is based on archival and contemporary productions of the Old Theatre and includes an educational and workshop component.
Visitors use theatre apps that let them learn about the work of directors, set designers and sound engineers – for example by browsing director’s scripts (egzemplarze reżyserskie), designing a set, mixing sound or recording a message with a virtual actor. On the SCENA MICET stage you can make your own short film.
