About the museum
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw deals with contemporary art. In 2024 the museum began operating in its new, permanent seat at Plac Defilad, in the very centre of the city. The building was designed by Thomas Phifer, and its area is nearly 20,000 square metres.
The glass-walled ground floor is open to everyone and houses, among other things, the reception, an auditorium and Gallery A, where admission to the exhibitions is free thanks to a partnership with a sponsor of the museum. In the white tower next to the building KINOMUZEUM operates, and the building also has a reading room, educational rooms and the M Sklep, combining a bookshop and an art store.
The museum also includes other places: the Pawilon Tańca i Innych Sztuk Performatywnych (Pavilion of Dance and Other Performing Arts) on the Kościuszko Embankment, the Dom Zofii i Oskara Hansenów (House of Zofia and Oskar Hansen) in Szumin, the Park Rzeźby (Sculpture Park) in Bródno, and Joanna Rajkowska’s installation “Palma” at the de Gaulle roundabout. The museum also runs a publishing house, an educational programme for families, schools and adults, and archives.
