About the museum
The BAM – Centro da Banana da Madeira is located in Lugar de Baixo, Ponta do Sol, about 15 km from Funchal. It is an interpretation centre dedicated to the banana, one of the island's most characteristic agricultural products, and it was co-financed by the PRODERAM 2020 programme.
The visit combines art and information: immersive installations, holograms and photographs are arranged in thematic zones covering the history of the banana in Madeira, transport processes, future challenges and its role in nutrition. Outside the building, visitors can see experimental banana fields, innovative systems for transporting bunches and greenhouses with modern technology.
The centre also has a bar overlooking the plantations and a shop with items created exclusively for the BAM.
