About the museum

The Museu de Imprensa da Madeira opened in August 2013 in the building of the Biblioteca Municipal of Câmara de Lobos and occupies about 2,000 m². It works in conjunction with the Museu Nacional da Imprensa, and its mission is to inventory, restore and exhibit the typographic, lithographic and film heritage linked to the press and mass media of Madeira.

The collection includes original equipment from the 19th and 20th centuries, such as a hand press made in Boston in 1886 by Golding & C.ª, an Intertype machine from 1911, built in England by Harris-Intertype, and a rotary press, rare in the history of the regional press. There are also about forty typewriters and several presses from the former regional press.
