About the museum
The house museum occupies the former residence of Elísio de Moura, a physician, university professor and philanthropist born in Braga, who lived there from the late 1920s until 1977. Elísio de Moura was a prominent figure in the teaching and research of psychiatry and neurology in Portugal and, in the early years of the Republic, helped keep medical teaching going at the University of Coimbra.
The museum opened in June 2018 and is part of the headquarters of the Casa de Infância Dr. Elysio de Moura, a home that continues to take in disadvantaged children. Visitors can see the laboratory, the bedrooms, the study, the living room, the bathroom and the kitchen, decorated in period style.
