About the museum
The idea of creating a museum dedicated to the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife arose in 1985, when the town council appointed Enrique González Bethencourt director of a future museum. Several earlier projects never came to fruition, and eventually an interpretation centre was set up in a former premises in the Barranco de Santos, at the height of the Puente Galcerán. Works began in 2016 and the Casa del Carnaval opened on 28 June 2017.
The building, of about 1,050 m², has a permanent exhibition that is renewed every year with the costume of the Carnival Queen and those of the prize-winning groups. The route includes eight modules with multilingual screens, posters from different years, a video wall and an educational and interactive area. The Adult Queen, the Children's Queen and the Senior Queen have a prominent place.
The house also has the Sala Suspi, a multipurpose room for temporary exhibitions, talks and presentations, a shop and a documentation and research centre on the Carnival heritage. From its opening until mid-2025, almost 166,000 people had visited it.
