About the museum
The Manolo Juárez Bullfighting Museum Foundation is linked to the Cartagena Bullfighting Club. It was founded on the initiative of Manuel Sánchez Juárez, who was president of the foundation and of the club for more than forty-five years. An article from 2009 announced its opening for the first quarter of 2010 as a new cultural space for the city.
The museum occupies about 800 m² on the first floor of the premises of the company Limpiezas Sureste, in the Coto Dorda, outside the historic centre. The rooms were designed to make use of natural light and have display cases and warm lighting.
The collection exceeds three hundred objects: fourteen suits of lights worn by bullfighters such as José Ortega Cano or Dámaso González, around twenty bulls' heads, six oil paintings, eight capes, bullfighting posters and pieces from the former bullring of Cartagena, which opened in 1854. The museum is open all year round, and visits are by appointment.
