About the museum
The Museo Foro Romano is the gateway to one of the largest urban archaeological parks in Spain, on the Molinete hill in Cartagena, where the forum of ancient Carthago Nova once stood. Its premises on Calle Gisbert are the starting point for a visit that links the museum with the remains in the open air.
The exhibition, spread over several floors, brings together a selection of the most important finds from the excavations on the hill and traces its history from the present day back to Roman times. The visit then continues among the ruins: the Curia, the colonial forum, the Sanctuary of Isis, the Termas del Puerto and the Atrium Building, which according to the interpretation of the site was the seat of a college where banquets in honour of the goddess Isis were held.
The museum is part of the offer of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, which manages the visits, including guided ones, which last about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
