About the museum
La Neomudéjar is a centre for avant-garde arts and an international artist residency, which opened in 2013 next to Atocha station and very close to the Paseo del Arte. It stages festivals of video art, exhibitions, talks and installations, and the artists in residence leave their mark on the building itself.
The centre occupies former premises of Adif, the state railway company. The building belonged to the old Atocha station and the tracks ran right up to its door, so materials were unloaded directly from the wagons. Its neo-Mudéjar style, very common in Madrid, gives the space an identity tied to Madrid’s art scene.
Until summer 2024, La Neomudéjar’s permanent collection was housed at the Ciudad del Arte-Museo Zapadores in Fuencarral. That museum closed in September 2024 because of the Madrid Nuevo Norte urban development project, and its works were moved to another space.
