About the museum
Museo ABC opened in 2010 on Calle de Amaniel, next to the Conde Duque Cultural Centre. Its home is a brick building from 1891 that housed the first Mahou brewery in Madrid, designed by the architect José López Salaberry and converted for its new use by the studio Aranguren & Gallegos.
It is run by the Fundación Colección ABC and holds the graphic archive of the newspapers ABC and Blanco y Negro, some 150,000 works by around 500 artists, from the late 19th century to the present day. The collection, which brings together drawings, illustrations and graphic humour, has been declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (asset of cultural interest).
The museum closed in March 2020 because of the pandemic and reopened in March 2024. Since January 2023 it has shared the building with the Clara del Rey Cultural Centre of Madrid City Council: the museum occupies the two basement floors and the cultural centre the upper floors. According to its website, the exhibition rooms are now temporarily closed for works.
