About the museum
The museum opened in 1953 to display the collection of Alejandro Grassy, the founder of the firm and a keen collector of clocks. It is located below the jeweller’s flagship shop at 1 Gran Vía, Madrid.
Part of the holdings come from the collection of Francisco Pérez de Olaguer-Felíu, with a predominance of French, English and German pieces. The route shows the evolution of mechanical clockmaking, from the iron mechanisms of the 16th century to the Empire-style clocks of the 19th century, and the pieces are in working order or capable of working.
The holdings include automata, table clocks, clocks with singing-bird scenes and large clocks depicting the heavenly bodies. The collection remains in the hands of the Grassy family.
