About the museum
The Ratón Pérez is a character from Spanish folklore, the mouse who visits children when they lose a tooth. His story comes from a work by Father Luis Coloma, who wrote it at the end of the 19th century for the then child king Alfonso XIII. In that story the mouse lives at 8 Calle del Arenal, in central Madrid, and the little house museum is located there today.
The guided visit goes round the mouse’s official home and tells his story and secrets. Among the features of the route are the biscuit box where he lives with his wife and children, the study where he reads children’s letters and the letter box for writing to him. It is a very small space, like its owner, with a tone of fantasy and tradition, and it lasts between 40 and 45 minutes.
In addition to the visit, the museum offers a standalone virtual reality experience, “El viaje de Pérez VR 360º”, and each school year it welcomes schools and camps from the Community of Madrid and its surroundings.
