About the museum
Naves de Gamazo are two industrial buildings used for port purposes, on the Muelle de Gamazo, facing the bay of Santander. The larger was built in 1908 and the second was added in 1950. After a comprehensive renovation that merged both buildings into a single exhibition space, the centre opened to the public in July 2021 as the Santander base of the ENAIRE Foundation. The foundation occupies it under a concession from the Santander Port Authority.
It is the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Contemporary Art Collection, which brings together around 1,300 works by more than 300 Spanish and Ibero-American artists. The centre displays a selection from that collection, which is rotated over time, and combines it with exhibitions drawn from other holdings and with photography. On the pedestrian square open to the sea stands the sculpture Bóveda para el hombre by Pablo Serrano, also part of the foundation’s collection.
In addition to the galleries, the centre offers free guided tours, art workshops with advance booking, digital resources such as virtual reality, and a reading point with art and aeronautics books. Admission and all activities are free, and dogs are welcome.
