About the museum
The CAN was founded in 1995 as a non-profit association for contemporary art. It sees itself as an experimental space for artists and as a platform for young positions.
Since its founding, more than five hundred exhibitions, performances, screenings, concerts, conferences and discussion rounds with over 1,500 artists from around the world have taken place here.
The centre is run with a flat hierarchy by a board of artists, curators and technicians who make decisions jointly. A committee of artists and art historians supports the work, and around 100 full members sustain the association.
