About the museum
The young collector Leonard Riesen founded the Eisenbahn und Sammler Museum Courlevon (ESMC) in 2016, aged ten, in Courlevon near Murten. The collection has grown steadily since then and brings the history of technology, transport and the region to life through models of railways, steam engines, cars and aircraft as well as historic objects such as uniforms and signs. A highlight is a model of Murten station in N scale as it stood in 1944; there is also a real Berna lorry from 1948.
The operator is the ESMC association, which manages donations and loans; its board includes former railway professionals from Murten, among others. Leonard Riesen runs the museum as director.
The ESMC shows larger temporary exhibitions at DasDEPOT, a former locomotive shed near Murten station, where there is a new exhibition every year. In 2026 the museum celebrates its tenth anniversary with an exhibition on aviation pioneers in the Three Lakes Region and an anniversary retrospective. The tourism portal freizeit.ch currently lists the original house in Courlevon as temporarily closed and refers to the exhibition in Murten.
