About the museum
The Militärmuseum Wildegg is a private museum that opened in 2009. Local military historians built it up to make the recent history of the Swiss Army accessible to a broad public. It is run by the foundation for the promotion and preservation of the Swiss Army's military-historical technology, based in Lenzburg; the museum is officially recognised and a member of the Association of Swiss Museums.
The collection is housed in five halls covering around 5,500 square metres and shows a cross-section of the army from 1945 to 2000. On display are wheeled vehicles from countless manufacturers; tanks from the Panzerwagen 39 through the Centurion and Panzer 61 to the Panzer 68/88; infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers, guns and mortars; and Air Force aircraft such as the Hawker Hunter, Vampire, Venom and Mirage III, as well as drones and a helicopter.
The vehicle display is complemented by equipment from the fields of NBC protection, engineering, communications, medical services, catering and civil defence, as well as personal equipment. Access is by fixed dates during the summer half-year; guided tours for groups are also possible outside opening hours.
